Hahn Engineering completed the joint design and construction administration of a 2 million gallon a day water filtration plant and a 1.5 mile 12” water transmission main that crosses I-684 and Saw Mill River Parkway and Muscoot Reservoir.
The filtration plant serves the hamlets of Katonah and Bedford Hills, in the Town of Bedford. It treats water from the Delaware Aqueduct which was required to replace the well water that had rising levels of nitrates and manganese.
The filtration plant site includes a 14,000 sf building, stormwater basins, a compost filter, control structures, chlorine contact tanks, a 30,000 gallon chemical storage tank, parking, septic system, site lighting, and an emergency generator. The process equipment inside the building includes but is not limited to pumps, filtration systems, contact tanks, sludge tanks, and chemical treatment.
Approvals obtained for the project include the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP), New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), Westchester County Department of Health, and the Town of Bedford.
